Student Policies

Nexus College of Business, Health & Technology is committed to providing a respectful, inclusive, safe, and student-centred learning environment. Student policies help ensure fairness, academic integrity, transparency, accountability, and compliance with applicable Ontario career college requirements.

All students are responsible for reviewing, understanding, and following College policies throughout their studies.

1. Student Code of Conduct

Students are expected to conduct themselves respectfully and professionally in all College-related activities, including online classes, communications, assignments, meetings, group work, placement activities, and interactions with staff, instructors, and other students.

Students must not engage in behaviour that is disruptive, dishonest, abusive, discriminatory, threatening, harassing, unsafe, or damaging to the College community.

2. Academic Integrity Policy

Students are expected to complete their work honestly and independently unless collaboration is clearly permitted by the instructor.

Academic dishonesty may include cheating, plagiarism, unauthorized collaboration, use of unauthorized materials, falsification of documents, impersonation, contract cheating, or submitting work that is not the student’s own.

Students are expected to properly cite sources and follow instructor guidelines regarding the acceptable use of technology and artificial intelligence tools.

3. Attendance and Participation Policy

Students are expected to actively participate in their courses and complete required learning activities, assignments, assessments, discussions, meetings, and practical requirements.

For online programs, participation may be measured through course activity, assignment submission, attendance in required sessions, communication with instructors, completion of learning modules, and progress in the learning management system.

Failure to participate or make satisfactory progress may affect academic standing, financial status, or continued enrolment.

4. Grading and Assessment Policy

Student achievement will be assessed based on course learning outcomes, assignments, tests, exams, projects, presentations, participation, practical activities, and other approved assessments.

Students are responsible for submitting work on time and following assessment instructions. Grades will be assigned according to the course outline, grading scheme, and College academic standards.

5. Late or Missed Work Policy

Students are expected to submit assignments and complete assessments by the required deadlines. Students who are unable to meet a deadline should contact their instructor as early as possible.

Late submissions, missed tests, missed assignments, or incomplete work may result in academic penalties unless an approved extension, accommodation, or alternate arrangement has been granted.

6. Academic Progress Policy

Students are expected to maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout their program. This may include meeting course requirements, maintaining required grades, completing assessments, participating regularly, and progressing through the program within approved timelines.

Students who are not making satisfactory progress may be placed on academic warning, required to meet with College staff, given an academic improvement plan, or subject to further academic action.

7. Student Complaint Procedure

Nexus College is committed to resolving student concerns in a fair, respectful, and timely manner.

Students are encouraged to first try to resolve concerns informally with the appropriate instructor, staff member, or department. If the concern cannot be resolved informally, students may submit a written complaint to College administration.

Students will not be penalized for submitting a complaint in good faith.

8. Appeal Policy

Students may request a review of certain academic or administrative decisions, including grades, academic standing, disciplinary action, or other decisions that directly affect their studies.

Appeals must be submitted in writing and should include the reason for the appeal, supporting documentation, and the outcome requested.

9. Accessibility and Accommodation Policy

Nexus College is committed to supporting students with disabilities and accessibility needs. Students may request reasonable accommodation where a disability-related barrier affects their access to learning, participation, assessments, or services.

Accommodation requests will be reviewed respectfully, confidentially, and on an individual basis.

10. Sexual Violence and Harassment Policy

Nexus College does not tolerate sexual violence, sexual harassment, harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or retaliation.

Students may report concerns to College administration. Reports will be handled with sensitivity, confidentiality, fairness, and respect for all individuals involved.

11. Expulsion Policy

A student may be subject to expulsion for serious misconduct, including academic dishonesty, harassment, threats, violence, repeated disruptive behaviour, misuse of College systems, falsification of records, non-payment of required fees after notice, or conduct that places the College community at risk.

Before expulsion is finalized, the College will review the matter fairly and provide the student with an opportunity to respond.

12. Withdrawal Policy

Students who wish to withdraw from a program must notify Nexus College in writing.

The effective withdrawal date will normally be the date written notice is received by the College, unless otherwise stated in the student contract or required by applicable regulations.

Withdrawal may affect tuition, refunds, academic standing, transcript records, and eligibility for future enrolment.

13. Refund Policy

Refunds will be handled according to the official enrolment contract, applicable Ontario career college requirements, and the Nexus College Refund Policy.

Students are responsible for reviewing tuition, fee, withdrawal, cancellation, and refund information before signing an enrolment contract.

14. Privacy and Student Records Policy

Nexus College respects student privacy and protects student information in accordance with applicable privacy laws and College policies.

Student records may include applications, admission documents, grades, attendance, academic standing, payment records, complaints, disciplinary records, transcripts, and graduation information.

Student information will not be sold and will only be used or disclosed where necessary for College operations, student services, legal requirements, regulatory reporting, or with appropriate consent.

15. Technology and Online Learning Policy

Students using Nexus College’s online learning systems, website, email, student portal, or digital platforms must do so responsibly and respectfully.

Students must not share passwords, misuse learning materials, interfere with online systems, upload harmful content, access unauthorized records, or use College technology for inappropriate, unlawful, or dishonest purposes.

16. Respectful Communication Policy

Students are expected to communicate respectfully with instructors, staff, classmates, placement partners, and College representatives.

Abusive, threatening, discriminatory, harassing, or inappropriate communication may result in disciplinary action.

17. Fees and Payment Policy

Students are responsible for paying tuition and fees according to the approved payment schedule in their official enrolment documents.

Failure to pay required fees may result in restrictions on course access, transcript release, graduation, continued enrolment, or other actions permitted by College policy and applicable law.

18. Graduation Requirements

To graduate, students must successfully complete all required courses, assessments, practical requirements, attendance or participation expectations, financial obligations, and any other program requirements.

Credentials will only be issued after all academic and administrative requirements have been met.

19. Career Support Policy

Nexus College may provide career support services such as resume guidance, interview preparation, job search strategies, LinkedIn profile support, professional communication guidance, and workplace readiness resources.

Career support does not guarantee employment, job placement, salary, promotion, licensing, certification, or immigration outcomes.

20. Policy Updates

Nexus College may update student policies from time to time to reflect changes in College operations, program requirements, legislation, regulatory guidance, or student needs.

Students are responsible for reviewing the most current version of College policies posted on the Nexus College website or provided by the College.
